Yesterdays interview which can be heard on www.OutCastAustin.com was awesome. Heath Riddle's new show on KOOP is impressive in content and polish; especially since it is only a few months old.
I think Heath has a hit on his hands.
I was on the show to promote a screening of my documentary, Art Erotica, at the Bootstrap Film Festival. To learn more go to http://bootstrap.bside.com/2008
Hope to cya at the screening which will be this Thursday, June 26th @ 6pm @ the Regal Arbor Cenima
aGLIFF gives first time directors a chance to show off their "maiden" film projects. Wow, I have not thought of myself as a maiden before. Hehehehe, it's like the Quincenieta I never had. While my ultimate goal is for str8 audiences to see the film because they need to be educated about the growing epidemic in their community, I know the GLBTQ community will cackle at the witty lines, cat call at the sexy images, and take pride in the grassroots support and leadership that our community has shouldered from the beginning of the epidemic until HIV/AIDS is no more.

Cross your fingers and light a candle for me. I just submitted Art Erotica to the Austin Film Festival. My goal is to raise awareness about US HIV/AIDS outside the Gay community. Getting accepted into festivals like this would an amazing opportunity to educate a wider audience about the growing epidemic in our local community as well as give the Octopus Club the props they desire.

Given the US's prudish views toward sexuality and sinner stigma around HIV/AIDS, I knew that Art Erotica The Movie could elicit negative reactions. Well, I can already put a check mark in that box.
It is easier to believe that HIV/AIDS is something that happens to "Them" and not "Us". Hearing that the virus could infect you or someone you love can generate fear that turns into misplaced anger. That is exactly what happened in this case.
I get that just the word 'erotic' makes some people blush, but that does not make them any less human and therefore any less vulnerable to sexually transmitted disease. To think humans are not sexually active is delusional. 50% of the US contract an STD by age 25 whether they take a 'virginity pledge' or not. 50% US HIV is contract from someone who did not know they were infected. 1 in 20 in Washington D.C. is HIV positive. These stats are what should be eliciting anger.
If my film gets people thinking, talking, taking action... to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, then I will gladly take a few tomatoes thrown at me.

One of the most common questions last night at the screening of Art Erotica The Movie was, "Are you excited?" I had a hard time answering that question. What drives me is the creative process and knowing that it has touch someone. Celebrating the completion of a project, seems foreign. Plus, it is hard for me to accept praise; even from myself. That sucks!

Wooo Hooo! Donors, cast, and crew will get their first look at Art Erotica. I am stoked!
The video above is a '3for' sneak peek of the movie, the Octopus Club, and the venue, the United States Art Authority.
While I really enjoyed testing the film with small groups of people, I am looking forward to watching a larger audience watch the movie. I always learn so much by watching the audience. It is interesting to see what they laugh at, what strikes them emotionally, what they get stuck on, and what do they completely miss.
The Octopus Club have been awesome at helping me organize the screening and promote it. They have been so extremely generous and supportive. I hope this documentary introduce artists, donors, and audiences to the wonderful events that the Octopus Club throws. Art Erotica 2008 is coming up on April 19th, and from what I have heard it is going to be "off the hook". I cannot hardly wait to start shooting the sequel!
Back to the premiere on Sat. March 8th: we found the perfect venue, the United States Art Authority. It's a hip community events center *slash* art gallery *slash* bar.
This is one of my favorite rough cut clips from Art Erotica 2007. Chris and Liz looked great that night. They turned heads and embodied the nights festivities. Art Erotica is an annual fund raiser organized by the Octopus Club. I was so inspired by the work the group is doing that I produced a documentary....coming soon.
